The Village Lou

Technology

In today’s world, technology is more than a convenience—it’s a necessity. From accessing healthcare to applying for jobs, learning new skills, or helping your kids with homework, having reliable digital tools and the knowledge to use them is essential. At The Village Lou, we’re connecting our community to tech resources that make everyday life more accessible and less overwhelming.

Digital Literacy

Digital literacy means having the confidence to use technology safely and effectively. Whether you’re brand new to smartphones and computers or just looking to boost your skills, there are community centers, libraries, and nonprofits offering free or low-cost workshops to help. Learn how to navigate the internet, avoid scams, set up email, use video calls, and more—with patient guidance and real-life support.

Internet Access

No one should have to sit in a parking lot to get Wi-Fi. We highlight programs that help families access free or affordable internet at home. From federal benefit programs like the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) to local hotspots and tech hubs, there are options to help you stay connected without breaking the bank.

Device Access & Repair

Don’t let a broken laptop or an outdated device hold you back. Community organizations around Louisville offer access to low-cost refurbished devices, as well as basic tech repair services for families and individuals. Some programs even provide free computers for students and job seekers who qualify.

Support for Online Applications

From housing forms to job applications, much of life happens online now, and we know that can be stressful. Many neighborhood-based resource centers offer one-on-one help with filling out online forms, setting up accounts, uploading documents, and navigating digital portals. You don’t have to do it alone.

Help with Online Learning

Whether you’re a student, a parent supporting virtual learning, or an adult going back to school, learning online can be tough. We connect you to tutoring programs, digital coaches, and tools that help make virtual education more manageable and engaging. Some centers also provide quiet spaces with Wi-Fi for learning and studying.
